What is the course about?

Human resources are the backbone of a successful supply chain but are often the resources that are invested in the least, with high staff turnover, lack of productivity and unfilled posts often the norm. This PSA short course uses a ‘plan-do-check-act’ approach to engage supply chain managers to better understand the importance of systematically engaging in human resources capacity development and the related theory of change.

Participants will be introduced to a locally-grounded systematic approach focusing on ‘policy and planning’, ‘leadership development’, workforce development’, ‘performance management and retention’ and professionalisation’. When applied, the strategies, tools and techniques developed in this course will enable participants to engage in meaningful management and long term capacity development of the human resources they rely on to manage their supply chain.

Who should attend?

This course will be beneficial to any mid- or upper-level manager responsible for managing human resources in health supply chains.

Course content

This five-day course builds upon the participants' initial understanding of human resources capacity development and management through interacting with their own country data to better understand priority human resource interventions.

From this basis, interactive sessions provide the background knowledge supporting the need for systematic management of human resources. This knowledge is applied through the introduction of case studies and the sharing and using of tools designed to address five interrelated areas: ‘policy and planning’, ‘leadership development’, workforce development’, ‘performance management and retention’ and professionalisation’. Participants will be guided through ‘Plan-Do-Check-Act’ approach that has as its aim a clear prioritised work plan suitable for their specific context, supported by tools and techniques to make it happen.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Have a detailed understanding of what is required to effectively manage human resources in the context of health and humanitarian supply chains-the theory of change for human resource for supply chain.
  • Be equipped with strategies, tools and techniques to engage in day to day human resources management, and undertake strategic approaches for longer term capacity development.
  • Better understand your local context and have a clear prioritised plan on how to take action to apply what has been learnt with the support of tested resources.Cost
